About . . .
. . . my beliefs about birth.
Birth transforms us. Through labor and delivery we are molded, shaped, and come out the other side a different person-- not only is a baby born, but a mother is, also.
Every person is different, every birth is different, and what we need to feel secure, safe, and empowered is different and individual. I firmly believe that an ideal birth is one where you feel empowered, respected, and proud of your hard work.
As your doula, I am committed to providing you the evidence-based information, individualized support, and resources you need to feel empowered during your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
. . . me (Meghan), as a doula and in general.
I am a DONA trained birth doula serving the Buffalo/Niagara area and am a member of WNY Doulas. I support families in all types of births, and feel called to serve those whom Christ loves-- which is everyone. I am passionate about pelvic floor health and informed consent.
I grew up in rural Western New York, and my husband Benjamin and I have an intensely extroverted almost-toddler.
. . . how I became a doula.
The first time I served as a friend's doula, I didn't even know what a doula was. All I knew was that I was hooked on birth.
That same friend hired a doula for her second birth, and at a WNY Doulas group prenatal meeting I was introduced as "her friend she needs at all her births." One of the other doulas teased, "You'd better be careful-- that's how people become doulas!" "Oh, no, not me! I could never become a doula.", I laughed.
I'm currently certifying through DONA International, I'm now a member of WNY Doulas, and that doula who teased me is my mentor. Oh, the twists and turns life takes.
